The one with (Baby travel - Sunshine here we come!)
We deliberately chose to book dates after Oliver had turned one, partly so that we would be well into the weaning process and we wouldn't have so much trouble finding food he can have and partly as he will have moved onto normal cows milk by then and be having fewer bottles (we're down to two now anyway). Plus I think we won't have to worry about sterilising by then, although opinions seem to differ on that one! We have wondered about keeping him on formula for the trip, not knowing how well the hotels will keep their milk (although, being a 5* hotel you'd hope it'd be safe!) but we're still thinking about that.
There is also plenty to think about regarding child air travel and baggage allowances etc. Do pushchairs, car seats, travel cots etc. count towards baggage allowance? Does your child get a luggage allowance if you don't purchase him his own seat? Should you purchase him his own seat? Does he need a carseat if he has his own seat?
Luckily for us, the hotel are providing a travel cot so that's one less thing to think about. We decided to book Oliver his own plane seat so that he would get his full 20kg of baggage allowance (who knows, we might need it even if he doesn't!) plus I don't fancy having a 20lb baby on my lap for four hours thank you very much! I have yet to discover whether or not we will need to bring his carseat in order for him to travel this way but I've still got 90 days to find that one out ;-)
Who else has taken trips abroad with babies and how did you get on? Do you have any tips for me?
