Since moving to the new house, we've realised just how useless our little 'corridor' of a dining room actually is. You can't have a lovely big six seater dining table in the middle of it for all those lovely dinner parties you feel sure you'll have once you have a 'proper' dining room because it has two doors in opposite corners - one leading to the hallway (and the rest of the house) and one leading to the kitchen. So you're constantly having to walk around the edge of the room and around the table. Consequently we ended up shoving the table in a corner and never using it because the room felt so unfinished and useless.
I decided that the room needed a total make over, starting with a overhaul of the actual purpose of the room. Clearly it was never going to be the formal dining room that we had hoped due to the room layout, and would that be the best use of the room anyway? I decided not. I thought we'd get far more use out of it if we made it into a sort of living/dining room - a second seating area, a place for the sofa bed that we need to get and just a small dining table that is big enough for the three of us. My head is full to the brim with interior design ideas, I can't wait... I do love a project!
Problem? Having just moved house and all the expenses that inevitably go with that... we have no money to spare for such a project at present. So the room sits empty, unpainted and unfinished. An ugly duckling smack bang in the middle of what is turning into quite a beautiful swan of a house. It. Bugs. Me. A. Lot. As we've touched on before, patience isn't a strong suit of mine.
So I've decided to try and speed up the process a bit by trying to sell a few unused bits on eBay, Gumtree and the like. This week I was extremely pleased with myself. I sold our dining table for £200 (the same as we paid for it three years ago!) "Project Dining Room Reno" is officially off the ground! :-)
But how will we eat now, I hear you ask? The answer - the same way as we always have, even when in possession of a dining table... on the floor at the coffee table in the living room with the TV haha!
